Observing with the Bristol Astronomical Society

The Society has an active membership that is keen to share their joy of observing. We hold several regular observing activities to cater for most events. We also try to support observing sessions for the General Public, Schools, Clubs etc so that we can help you enjoy the Night Sky. A few of our regular events are listed below. Saturday Night at the Failand Observatory

Members open the Society's Observatory at Failand on most clear saturday nights.

Star Parties

Society members provide equipment and expertise for Star Parties run by BAS, The National Trust (Dyrham Park) and Friends of the Downs and Avon Gorge. These very popular events take place (weather permitting) one day a month between September and March.

Society members run Solar Observing sessions on the first sunny Saturday or Sunday each month between April and Sept at the National Trust Tyntesfield Estate.

Festival of Nature

Festival of Nature

Members showcase solar observing as part of Bristol’s Festival of Nature in June each year at the Harbourside. This is one of the UK's largest free celebration of the natural world.
